Ramaiya Vastavaiya is a Bollywood romance comedy film directed by Prabhu Deva. The film introduces producer Kumar Taurani's son Girish Kumar, opposite Shruti Haasan. It will be a remake of Prabhu Deva's directorial debut Telugu blockbuster Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana which in turn was inspired by the 1980s Hindi movie Maine Pyaar Kiya apparently, though this film also features many similarities with the 1998 Hindi hit Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya. The theatrical trailer of Ramaiya Vastavaiya was uploaded on 25 April 2013, whilst the film released on 19 July 2013.

The film begins in Jail, where a jailer (Shiraz Ahmed) checks into the cell of Raghu (Sonu Sood). Raghu is a kind-heartened guy who has been in jail for the past 7 years apparently. The story then goes back around 7 years, when Ram (Girish Kumar) lives in Australiawith his billionaire parents Siddharth (Randhir Kapoor) and Ashwini (Poonam Dhillon). Sona (Shruti Haasan) is a simple girl from a small Indian village, who's been raised by her loving, protective brother, who is Raghu{Sonu Sood}.
Their paths meet when Ram comes to India with Ashwini to attend his cousin Riya's wedding. Ashwini has nothing but disdain for the poor, while Raghu can not stand the wealthy.
With Raghu being back at the village, Sona arrives at Riya's house 15 days earlier, being friends. There, Ram manages to win her heart over the weeks. However, Ashwini wants him to marry her brother Krishnakant's (Satish Shah) business partner's (Nassar) daughter Dolly. She sends Ram off with his friend Bijli (Paresh Ganatra) to buy jewelry, while her, Krishnakant and Jayprakash insult Sona. Sona runs off crying, right as Raghu walks in. Raghu leaves with Sona, as soon as Ram returns. Ram hitches a ride off Prabhudeva and enters Sona's village. There, Raghu challenges him to produce more yield than him, and if he is able to do so, he will be allowed to marry Sona.
The filming began on 1 August 2012 in Mumbai apparently. The film has also completed a schedule in Himachal Pradesh apparently. It has been announced that the film will be a remake of director Prabhu Deva's Telugu directorial debut Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana, which itself was inspired by the 1980s Hindi cult movie Maine Pyaar Kiya apparently. apparently. Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana was also unofficially remade in Nepali as Pharkera Herda (The Flashback) in 2010 starring Nikhil Upreti, Aaryan Sigdel, Yuna Upreti andNeer Shah through Gopi Krishna Movies, and in Tamil with the title Something Something... Unakkum Enakkum and
also in Bengali which was called I Love You which saw the introduction of Dev, apparently. The storyline also features similarities with the 1998 film Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya.
The first song promo of the film was released on 10 May 2013, under the title of "Jeene Laga Hoon", sung by Atif Aslam and Shreya Ghoshal. The song was uploaded on the Tips Music Films YouTube channel (tipsmusic), whilst the full soundtrack released on 15 May 2013. All songs of this album are composed by Sachin-Jigar.

Jyoti Prakash of Indian Box Office Online gave the album 3.5 out of 5.0 stars and said, "The music of the film is refreshing,cheerful and vibrant and perfectly suits the mood and setting of the film. Highly recommended." Shresht Poddar, of Score Magazine, gave the album 3.5 out of 5 stars saying,"In a nutshell, Ramaiya Vastavaiya’s soundtrack lives up to the high expectations courtesy Sachin-Jigar’s musical prowess. Priya Panchal’s lyrics beautifully complement the duo’s lilting melodies." Avad M of Bollywood3 stated Ramaiya Vastavaiya's album as a mixed bag filled with different kind of songs. VjMOVIEWs opined that, "RV is a makeshift offering of Prabhudeva resembling two of yesteryear blockbusters, Maine Pyaar Kiya and Pyaar kia to Darna Kya". Musicperk.com rated the album 7.5/10 quoting "Refreshing album that works". With over 4000 ratings, the film sat at a rating of 2.6/5 stars. The verdict was "Ramaiya Vastavaiya has a run-of-the-mill story which doesn't entertain or amuse. The romance is unoriginal and the masala is bland. Skip it."
